Plain-English summary of how RunQuest, operated by Mindful Runner (Pty) Ltd (South Africa), handles your data. This is a first pass ahead of formal legal review — treat it as an honest statement of intent, not a final legal instrument.
Who operates RunQuest
RunQuest is a product of Mindful Runner (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. Wherever this policy says "we" or "RunQuest," it means Mindful Runner (Pty) Ltd.
What we collect
- Account details you give us: name, email, and profile information you choose to add.
- Location data recorded while you use the app to play — GPS positions during a run, checkpoint proximity events, and derived stats like pace and distance.
- Device and usage data that helps us keep the app working: crash reports, app version, general device type.
- Content you create: quests, checkpoints, threats, and any photos or notes you attach to them as a creator.
How we use location data
Location data is processed to run the game: validating checkpoints, powering the live threat system, computing scores, and building your run history and war stories. We do not sell your location data — ever, to anyone, for any reason.
When your location is visible to others
Your live position is only visible to other people in two situations, and only while you're actively opted in:
- Shared runs and crew play — other runners in the same session or crew can see your live dot, the same way they would in any multiplayer run.
- Broadcast / spectate — for an event you've registered into, where the organiser has switched on public live pages, your display name and live position may appear on the event's public spectate page or big-screen display. This only happens for events you've explicitly registered into where the organiser has flagged that event public; it is never on by default across the app.
Outside of gameplay and events you've opted into, your location is not shared or made public.
Data retention
We keep run history and account data for as long as your account is active, so your progression, ghosts and war stories remain available to you. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — contact us and we'll action it.
Third parties
We use infrastructure providers (hosting, database, mapping, payments processing where applicable) to run the service. These providers process data on our behalf under contract — they don't get to use it for their own purposes, and we don't sell access to your data to anyone.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information at any time. Contact us and we'll respond as quickly as we can.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page as the product and our legal review evolve, and mark the version accordingly. This is version 1.
